Shortly after the end of the war, for the murder of one of the most prominent KLA figures, Commander Drinit, had been sentenced to 15 years in prison by a former superior of KLA, Sali Wessel. Two years later, the Supreme Court had freed Wessel from all charges. The principal Witness was Remzi Shala. The same one was now invited by the Special Tributal, as suspicious.
Remzi Shala, former KLA member, has been invited by the Special Court to interview as suspect of war crimes. He has confirmed this himself for the Express Journal, but has said he will not turn himself in to The Hague.
Several invitations have already been made public that the Special Court has launched to a number of former UCKA members, but most of them do not know the concrete reasons for the interest of prosecutors and investigators in this school.
However, Shala, a generally unknown name to the public shortly after the end of the war, has an earlier court story, for one of the murders that had shocked Kosovo, the one of Ekrem Rega, known by the name of the war as Commander Drini.
In 2002, Shala was the main witness in the trial of this murder, where the prime suspect had been a commander, also known for the war, Sali Wessel.
Sali Wessel, former KLA KLA commander and KPC general, was sentenced by the International Judicial Panel at the District Court in Prizren for killing Commander Drin with 15 years of freedom, while the other accused Abbit Haziray, former KLA member, was acquitted of having been acquitted of having no testimony.
Commander Drini was killed in May 2000, while Sali Wessel was arrested on May 8, 2001.
Remzi Shala had collaborated with Wessel during the war, while after the war he had become his driver. After the assassination of Commander Drin, Shala became the main witness against his boss's friend.
“For the first time I realized that Drin's murder was being prepared in Wessel's office when Fatosi (Nal Chadak's nickname) entered Wessel's office and told him that he was writing what this dog wrote, (for Drin) in the newspaper of hopes '”, and according to Shala, Wessel told him that “he knew and Fatos had returned this dog to him and I would put it to the stake of the APU6...
Afterwards, Shala, in this trialal process, had confessed how after Drin's burial, they celebrated at “Pojata” where there were 13 people, including Sali Veselin, Halil Chadrac, Sadik Halitaj, Alush Shala, Xhemajl Beciray, acknowledging that she has been there.
According to him, Wessel at that lunch at “Pojata” said that “we killed Drin, and now Bislim Office is in line and that I kill the man and read the report to him at”.
However, after the 15 - year sentence, Sali Wessel had filed complaints with the Supreme Court. She had declared him innocent in 2004, releasing him from all charges, that he was involved in the murder of Commander Drini. That way, since then, one of the enigmatic killings committed in post-war Kosovo has remained unprecedented.
The invitation given to Remzi Shala, now in the quality of the suspicious person, increases speculation that the Special Tributal prioritizes this murder.
Remzi Shala from Suhareka himself was declared invited by the Special Court to go to The Hague. In a difficult readable post on Facebook, former Facebook editor U n CKUA said it would respond to specials, since it does not recognise this institution.
Shala's lawyer, Natal Bulaaj, has told Gazeta Express that he is informed by the Special Court only that his client is invited as a suspect, while showing he does not know which case he is getting cold.
The Express newspaper has seen the call Shala has received to go to The Hague.
Shala, from Suhareka, has told Gazeta Express that she will not respond to the call of the Special Court, thus risking being fined or even sentenced to prison, as the call warns.
In the first week of December, the names of people invited by The Hague have been released.
The list started with former Llap Operative Zone Commander Rrustem Mustafen, known as Remi.
Then he confirmed that Sokol Dobruna, who was court judge of the UCKA Court, was invited by the Special Court.
Lawyer Arianan Koci has confirmed that the former commander of the Drenica Zone has also been invited to be interviewed by the Special Court on January 14th.
So far the names published as special guests are also Nazif Mehmet and Safet Syla.
