The Open Society Institute Index in Sofia says Balkan countries are the most sensitive in Europe for false news because of their controlled media, low educational levels and low levels of trust in society.
Balkan countries are the most vulnerable in Europe to the false “phenomenon” and after the truth, says a new report, blaming the media that are very much controlled by the state or business interests, educational shortcomings and low levels of trust in society.
According to the 2018 Index, Nordic countries are better equipped to resist false news, mainly because of their high educational results and media freedom.
The report cites Estonia in Eastern Europe as a country with higher education and high media freedom results, staying in the Central and Eastern Europe region.
As for the Balkan states, the Index puts them on the lower half of the rating rate, with countries like Serbia, Bulgaria, Turkey and Bulgaria standing with the worst results.
The so-called false news has spread through Serbia's media, especially in the landscape, the editor of page “had earlier said Fakenews Seeker”, Stefan Janjic.
He said the renowned Serbian picture “Alo” published 358 pages first in 2017, with 237 of them having titles that could be marked as false or manipulated.
While in the next picture, “Informator”, the numbers are even higher. The first 302 pages contained 362 false or manipulating reports.
