The NHS official report in England found young girls aged 17-19 were twice as likely to have mental problems, and 23.9% reported it.
Psychiatrics said problems are less common in younger age groups but are on the rise.
Mental disorders are affecting many and children. Of those between the ages of 5 and 15, one in nine had a disorder when 13 years ago they were 1 in 10.
The findings are based on a survey of more than 9,000 youths.
