The well-known Gallup polling company said 60 per cent of Albanians would eventually abandon Albania if they could.
According to Gallup, this makes Albania fourth in the world with the highest trend for migration. Only two African republics -- Sierra Leone and Liberia -- and Haiti's destroyed state, three countries where poverty levels vary from 54 to 70 percent, reports Top Chanel.
Expressed in population numbers, this means that of the 2.87 million people currently with Albania, 1.7 million want to leave.
This is also a trend for higher migration than that of countries involved in civil wars and the main cause, according to citizens, is the economy, but also the lack of public services.
Since the fall of communism, Albanians have largely abandoned their homeland. But the trend for migration continues to be equally strong three decades later. This is a phenomenon that threatens the future of the economy by disturbing international institutions as well.
In the last mission in Tirana, the International Monetary Fund said Albania needs higher economic growth and investment in priority sectors such as education and health to ease the population's tendency to emigrate. / TCh/
