The pregnancy can cause changes in how the female brain is connected and help them connect to the baby.
Researchers say that pregnancy changes the cerebral bark, the outer layer of gray matter that plays a key role in the processing of information.
This restructuring occurs even before birth, where mothers who experience this change most report stronger attachment to the baby because they are more sensitive to the baby's facial expressions.
The previous research has been focused on the brain changes of mothers during the postnatal period, but this team from the University of Toronto says that this is the first study to analyze brain changes during pregnancy.
So the discovery has shed light on the phenomenon called “the body of pregnancy” where women report forgetting more and becoming more emotional during pregnancy.
The idea is that changing the way the brain is connected helps women focus more on the needs of newborns and become less focused on where the keys to the car are left, which makes them good mothers.
It is noteworthy that this study was published in the magazine Child Development.
