US President Donald Trump has sent a letter to Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama following the expulsion of Iranian Ambassador to Tirana and another diplomat.
Trump has praised Rama, saying that the “leadership shown by you with the expulsion of Iran's ambassador from your country is an example of our joint efforts to show the Iranian government that its terrorist actions in Europe and around the world will have grave consequences”.
The letter has been made public by the American Embassy in Tirana.
We commend Albania's government for taking action against the Iranian regime for its terrorist plot on Albanian soil, threatening European security. Albania's government has shown the true leader in our joint efforts to send a clear message to Iran that the conduct of terrorist acts in Europe, or elsewhere, is unacceptable and will not be tolerated. We stand side by side with Albania, our ally in NATO and our strategic partner”, read the American Embassy's status.
And this is President Trump's letter:
Dear Mr. Prime Minister: Thank you for your determined efforts by opposing Iran and countering the actions of its destabilizing efforts to silence dissidents around the globe. The leadership shown by you by the expulsion of Iran's ambassador from your country is an example of our joint efforts to show the Iranian government that its terrorist actions in Europe and around the world will have serious consequences. Albania has always been a great friend of the United States, and I welcome increased our partnership as we face the many important issues both our countries face. Honestly, Donald Trump”
