Canada has made its first official request to China to immediately release two citizens who have been arrested as a sign of revenge for the arrest of a Chinese company leader, “Hawawei”. The US, Great Britain and the European Union have issued support statements for Canada as well.
“We are deeply concerned about the arbitrary arrest of two Canadians by Chinese authorities this month and ask that they be released immediately”, Canadian Foreign Minister Chrystia Freeland said. In addition to this statement, Canada has called the Chinese ambassador to report and has informed him of their request.
The top leader of the Chinese company was arrested on December 1st at the request of the United States of America because of the violation of US sanctions on Iran. Nine days later, China was arrested by a diplomat and a Canadian businessman. The move is being assessed as revenge for the arrest of its citizen from Canada, writes the Guardian”.
