Big babies are almost three times as likely to be fat as children, research suggests.
Newborns who weigh more than four kilos and whose mothers had diabetes during pregnancy faced the highest risk,
They are 2,79 times more likely to be fat or overweight than children born with the weight of normal amounts.
The babies are more likely to be born heavy if their mothers are overweight or if they accumulate by pounds during pregnancy.
Experts say this can cause babies to become fat in later life if they inherit their mothers' genes for the situation or take over its eating habits.
