US Defence Secretary James Mattis's resignation has sparked reactions in the United States. Convention members from both sides have been declared regarding the latest developments within the Trump Administration.
Senator Mitch McConnell, from President Trump's Republican Party, said he is concerned about the fact that the resignation was made due to the major differences General Mattis had with the president.
Florida Senator Marco Rubio, who opposed Trump in the race within the republics in 2016, said that the reasons for his resignation show that the state is heading towards a series of serious political errors that would endanger the American nation.
Senator Democrat Mark Warner, who is deputy chairman of the Senate's Committee for Intelligence, described Mattisis' departure as frightening.
Otherwise, the announcement of the resignation came just a day after President Trump announced that he would withdraw American troops from Syria, which General Mattis had strongly opposed.
And in his letter of resignation, the general has cited the differences he has with the president. He has said Trump has the right to appoint someone who has closer positions with his own. Mattis will officially leave office in February.
