Over 1,000 victims of domestic violence over ten months

From January to October this year in the Kosovo Police have reported over a thousand cases of domestic violence. While in the Council for Protection of Human Rights and Freedoms, sociologists estimate that the number of victims of domestic violence is even greater, but not all cases are presented to the police. According to them, the main cause for the large number of domestic violence cases is the serious economic situation.

The Office for Information in the Kosovo Police for the newspaper “Voice” has said the largest number of domestic violence victims belongs to female gender. “From January 1,128 cases of domestic violence have been reported, where the number of female victims is 901”, they said.

In the same period of time last year, based on Kosovo Police statistics, 1271 cases of domestic violence have been recorded.

Police have stressed that at the central and local level (the regional director or police stations) there are trained police officials who deal only with cases of domestic violence and investigations of such cases. The arrest of suspected persons in such cases of domestic violence is done whenever there is legal grounds and is simultaneously worked on collecting facts and evidence related to criminal work, so that the suspect can receive the conviction deserved by the justice decision-making authorities, respectively, courts”, said in the Police Department. /zer
