Interior Minister Fatmir Xhafaj has given this Monday his last speech at the helm of the post, which has been characterised by a series of thanks to police employees, but also by several stone strikes, as Prime Minister Rama calls home “ ”.
Fatmir Xhafaj has addressed the cannabis issue, openly saying that cultivating this drug in the country had become a normal issue and a story of shame for the country. Xhafaj even noted that some are pretending to have forgotten this issue, which was strongly fought at the time of the interior ministry's leadership by Xhafay himself.
Fatmir Xhafaj: The fight against the cultivation of cannabis trafficking was one of our top priorities and among the first public promises that we have fully fulfilled.
On March 27th of last year, we declared a non-competitive fight against this criminal phenomenon, held for 25 years in this country. I want to remind you of all of our critics, but also different skeptics, and especially those who have forgotten or deliberately forget to minimize the success achieved, that the cannabis had served over the years as the main source of the establishment and financial empowerment of organized crime in this country and that it was almost viewed as the normality of our lives and as a possibility of the state of society to win the battle with it.
It has not been a simple struggle against him, but we have had all the will and organizing ability to end one of the most criminal phenomena in this country once and for all. And I stress it with no additional support in human, logistical and financial resources.
We've completed this year's major anti-kanabis operation. I'm looking forward to seeing the certified results from our international partners assisting and monitoring this operation, which will re-advict how a story of shame and failure in years finally turned together into a success story. It is already accepted and certified by international partners. Albania is no longer on the map of European countries where cannabis cultivation is a phenomenon.
This remarkable success is fully an indication of your seriousness and professionalism. It is an indication of honesty and commitment to the interest of our citizens and international commitments.
Thank you all, especially the police officers of the basic role, who have been watching the ground with a special commitment!
