According to a U.S. government report, the impact of climate change is increasing in the United States, seen specifically in powerful storms, droughts, and forest fires.
The report, drafted with the help of more than 12 government agencies and departments, often conflicts with President Donald Trump's policy, which has been withdrawn from the environmental and climate protection agreement, with the aim of increasing fossil fuel production in the country to a maximum, reports VOA.
Trump and some members of his cabinet have repeatedly questioned the scientific definition of climate change, saying the causes have not been determined yet.
The report, released with the approval of the U.S. Congress, was released on Friday somewhat in silence, on the weekend of Thanksgiving Day.
The White House criticised the report as incorrect. White House spokeswoman Lindsay Walters told Reuters that the report “is heavily maintained in the most extreme scenario, contrary to long-designed trends, assuming that we would have limited technology and innovation and a large increase of the population”.
In the “assessment report on the Global Climate”, of more than 1000 pages, it is warned that there will be more powerful and longer-term natural disasters caused at least partially by global warming.
