A new study suggests that the difficult life and stressful situations women are exposed to during their lifetime have a very negative effect on the heart and blood vessels.
The new study analyzed the life experiences of some 300 non-duhanpirian women who were approaching menopausis or passing menopause.
Women who had three or more traumatic experiences in life had worse heart function and blood vessels than those with less traumatic experiences.
Endothelial reproductive function increases the risk of heart disease, researchers say. These results, they say, underline the importance of psychosocial factors, such as exposure to trauma, the risk of heart disease in middle - aged women.
Given that a large number of women in post-menopauza are affected by heart disease, the results of studies are gaining importance. During the regular checkups of women, health workers need to discuss in detail with women not only their physical health but also their past life and the stressful situations that have survived.
Heart disease is a major cause of death for women in the world. Research results are preliminary and should be presented at the annual “meeting North American Menopause Society” in Philadelphia.
