A new discovery explains why obese people are more likely to develop cancer, scientists say.
The type of cell that the body uses to destroy carcinogenic tissue is blocked by fat and stopped from working, the Periscope broadcasts.
The fat is the biggest cause of cancer in Great Britain after smoking, says Cancer Research UK. And more than one in 20 cancer cases about 2,800 cases each year are caused by excessive body weight.

Experts suspect that fat sends signals to the body that could damage cells, leading to cancer and increase their numbers.
Now, Trinity scientists have been able to show, in nature's Immunology magazine, how cells fighting body cancer are blocked by fats.
And they hope to be able to find treatments that can restore these cell combat capabilities so-called natural suicide “ ”. / BBC
