It's been more than four years since March 25th 2014, the year in which Katie Stubblefield's life changed forever. She remembers nothing that spring afternoon when she attempted suicide with her brother's gun in the bathroom. Katie, only 18 years old, was rushed to Cleveland Clinton in a desperate attempt to save her life, even though this would cost her beautiful face that had remained reformed as a result of the shooting. But not only that, the young girl also lost her sense of attraction and had to spend all two years of her life tied to machines that helped her to feed and breathe. On May 4, 2017, she spent 31 hours lying in Cleveland's operating room after a facial transplant interfered, which already allows her to chew, swallow, and breathe freely.
“She's the 40th person in the world who performed a facial transplant and the third in Cleveland Clinic, considered a pioneer in the US facial reconstruction. Yet, she was a little different than the previous cases: not only is she the youngest, but because it was the longest facial transplant ever performed.
