We all love it figuratively, but not in the first sense. This study has found incidents of an orgasm so powerful that it has blinded the person in question.
“Loss of looking after sexual relations due to retinopathy “valseva” is the frightening name that has been given to such a terrible event.
This happens when a blood vessel bursts into the eye because of high pressure on the retina. In a study by scientists in the Universitys of Edinburgh and Southampton, a 29-year-old reported that he held his breath and pushed his diaphragm through the orgasm, resulting in the outbreak of the blood vein.
“A 29-year-old patient appeared at the emergency clinic after noting a partial loss of sight in the left eye. The patient discovered an episode of powerful sexual relations the previous evening. During the orgasm, maneuvering “valsalva” can produce a sudden increase in the pressure of the vein in the retina, which leads to eye hemorrhage”.
Fortunately, blindness is temporary, but it is not a very pleasant feeling.
Authors Luke Michaels and Naing Latif Tint hope that the study will ensure doctors examine patients who view sexual activity as a result of physical change, despite the taboo of discussing sex with strangers.
