Men who are obsessed with going to the gym to make the perfect body are more likely to suffer from depression, and a new study has been found.
Researchers from Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) and Harvard University say that nearly 10 percent of the men surveyed had a body image disorder, believing that they were too fat and wanted to be weaker. Because of this disorder, they were more likely to drink alcohol on weekends, or apply a diet and use steroids. The team says its study is the first to investigate men's relations with their muscles and that they must be more sources to help the growing number of males struggling with body image disorders.
This study included more than 2,400 American men between the ages of 18 and 32. Researchers praised their habits of going to the gym and their image of the body, and their muscle mass. Almost 10 percent of males had a body image disorder, which means that they viewed themselves as too fat and wanted to be weaker.
Men obsessed with the gym were four times more likely to use illegal products, and anabolic steroids for muscle construction. Researchers also found that more than one in three men had been on a diet in the past year that had nothing to do with obesity.
