Serbia's Nemanja Matic, who plays for Manchester United, says he hasn't put on “redphone” during the match against Bournemoth because he commemorates his village during the war bombing when he was 12.
Macic was the only United player who didn't carry <x0... redphone” on his fan, broadcast time.net.
Thirty-year-old Serbia has launched a statement on its Facebook account explaining its reasons:
I fully understand why people carry “redphone”. I respect everyone's right to do this and have genuine sympathy for every person who lost loved ones during the conflict. However, to me it is just a reminder of an attack I personally felt, as a 12-year-old living in Vrelo while Serbia was bombarded in 1999. I've done so before, and as a reflection of this I don't feel like it's right to put it on my own”, he said.
He said he hoped everyone would understand his reasons.
Now that I've explained them and that I'm going to concentrate on helping my team in the game that we have before”, he added.
