The unfortunate Queen's necklace has placed a new world pearl record under the home of Sotheby's auctions.
He had a hard fight for them in Geneva. The necklace, adorned and diamond, was initially valued at $2 million. The necklace is part of an important collection of jewelry put out for sale by the Italian royal house Bourbon-parma.
Some of them had not been seen in public for 200 years. The previous record of the most expensive pearl jewelry held a necklace of the late actress Elizabeth Taylor, who was sold in 2011 by Christie's auction house for $11.8 million.
Maria Antoneta had managed to send her family to Austria most of her necklaces, rings, bracelets and earrings prior to her failed attempt to leave France with her husband, King Louis XVI, and children.
She was executed in guillotine in 1793 at the age of 37.
