Mladic spoke to the guests on the programme after being called by his son Darko, who was presenting a book on the former general in Belgrade on Friday.
MICT spokeswoman Helen Egleston said the detainees have the right to communicate with members of their families, but any contact with the media must be approved in advance by the UN tribunal secretariat.
“
She refused to speculate on possible sanctions that could be imposed on Mladic.
It is now up to the secretariat to decide whether there were any violations, and if there are, the detention unit where Mladic is held and the secretariat will take certain measures,” she said.
Mladic's son was hosted in the pro-government Serbian television channel along with Russian Deputy State Deputy Doma Pavel Dorochhin and Serbian nationalist politician convicted of war crimes Vojislav Shesheli.
At one point in the programme, Darko Mladic called his father, who greeted Dorokhin and his Communist Party of Russia, invited Scheel to visit him in custody and advised him to fall off weight.
Mladic was convicted of genocide and other war crimes by the UN tribunal in The Hague in November 2017, but will appeal against the decision condemning him to life in prison. The latest decision is expected to be made next year.
