So says Sali Ahmeti, an infectedologist, under whom some of the infectious diseases are new to Kosovo.
“These diseases that have come to Kosovo are as a result of opening doors with the outside world, and as a result, we are also affected by many infectious diseases, considered new but threatening human life and being expensive”, Ahmeti said.
Over a year, according to current data, some 100,000 people are infected with infectious diseases. According to health officials, the number of people affected by infectious diseases is about 60,000 cases per 100,000. These figures have been given to the National Institute of Public Health in Kosovo.
Dr. Sali Ahmeti specifys infectious diseases that have been presented in Kosovo and considered new to the country.
For the first time on the last tenth anniversary, we've had forms of malaria that came from the outside world brought the disease, then it was the West Nile virus. So these are new infectious diseases that we've faced with”, Ahmeti said.
Then during this summer and the past two years, we've been faced with rotaryrus, which is a particular problem with diseases as well as salmonella and many others. We continue to have manifestations of bleeding fevers, and no doubt the wandering form. And then there's bourselosis, tularemia, last year we've had an epidemic explosion of Morbyll, paotite etc. ”, Ahmeti said.
Based on a study by the World Health Organization (OBSH) and other institutions, in recent years, measles are this year's resurface in Europe, where the number of people infected since 2007 has tripled.
Fruit is a contagious and serious disease caused by a virus spread through direct contact and through air.
This virus can spread quickly, especially in countries where vaccines are below 95 percent of the population.
Last year for the six-month period, when the first cases of measles in Kosovo were reported, the year was closed to 1,005 people affected with this virus, where 552 were hospitalised in the Infectious Clinic at the University Clinical Centre in Kosovo.
On the other hand, Lul Raka, microbiologist, told Radio Free Europe that the mortality rate of infectious diseases is high.
“Contagion diseases are transmitted to considerable mortality rates, but these diseases also have high costs and receive a significant portion of the state budget”, Raka said.
Unlike infectious diseases in Kosovo during 2016, according to the Statistics Ent, 64 cases of death have been recorded, which this year is the last that this institution has released statistics in question.
One factor that has influenced certain infectious diseases to shrink, but also to disappear in Kosovo is the vaccine.
Kosovo ranks among the most successful states in the world in terms of immunization, the Kosovo National Institute of Public Health leaders have said.
With an coverage of over 95 percent of Kosovo's children's immunization, which is realised under the Expanded Immunification Programme, this programme is considered one of the most successful events of Kosovo health.
