Deputy Prime Minister Enver Hoxhaj has said the 10 per cent safeguard clause imposed by the Government of Kosovo, for products imported from Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina, protects Kosovo's state interests, empowers it, and protects local products.
He has said the decision has been made to prevent Serbia from financing campaigns against Kosovo in a global geography.
In addition to the tax, Hoxhaj invites Kosovo citizens to boycott Serbian products and buy goods produced in Kosovo.
“Sometime when we said no to the Milosevic regime through boycott, civil resistance, armed struggle today we want to block the Serbian economy, and the decision is appropriate”, he said in an interview for Telegrafi.
Hoxhaj further said the Kosovo government will continue to hold that decision.
If they have the luxury to continue, we will stay with the decision we have made as Government of the Republic of Kosovo. I think that the decision as such protects the interests of the state of Kosovo, the sovereignty of Kosovo, territorial integrity, but above all protects local products”, Deputy Prime Minister Enver Hoxhaj said.
