People with Down syndrome have 47 chromosomes in each cell instead of 46. This extra chromosome, in part or completely chromosome 21, results in characteristics associated with syndrome.
Is it a legacy?
Usually Down syndrome is not inherited. It was caused by an error in cell sharing during the early development of the fetus, writes Mayo Clinic.
Down transmission section can go from parents to children. Yet, only about 3 to 4 percent of children with Doa syndrome have transplantation, and only a few have inherited it from one of their parents.
