The Foundation Court for Radio Free Europe has said that the former director of the Directorate for Security and Counterintelligence has been arrested at the request of the Special Prosecutor, due to the risk of possible escape, while the pre-trial judge has assigned 30 days of detention.
The former secret police chief is being tried for abuse of office in at least four processes involving manipulation of the election process, ordered violence against former Interior Minister Lube Boskovski, financial misuse, and other criminal acts.
Otherwise, Sasho MIlajkov is the first cousin of former Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski, who has also been sentenced to two years in prison, while several other court processes are under way for abuse of official office.
Sasho Mijalkov's arrest comes hours after Nikola Gruevski announced he received political asylum status from Hungarian authorities, where he was sheltered shortly after police had started looking for him to send him to the prison sentence. (REL)
