Individualized one of the reasons that cells can enter into tumor chaos is an error in a key DNA repair mechanism which, by itself, begins a series of catastrophic events, according to a study published in “Nature Communications” magazine, made by a coordinated research by the German Center for Cancer (DKFZ).
The discovery of this mechanism is the first step in producing drugs capable of combating the tumor.
“Caos caused by DNA repair defects is scary”, Ernst says.
“Anyway, we can fight by targeting tumor cells that hide such defects, using drugs capable of blocking the DNA repair mechanism of these cells”, he added.
The chaotic situation caused by the error discovered by German scientists has so far been at 20-30% levels in aggressive tumors.
This phenomenon is called chromosis, and it causes hundreds of changes with a single blow because chromosomes are cut down at many points and reunited in the wrong way. /Attish
