According to a new United Nations study, the most dangerous place for women is said to be home!
Out of a total of 87,000 women killed last year, about 50,000 of them '%- or 58% have been killed by partners or family members.
More than 30% of women were deliberately killed in 2017 by a former partner or current partner, while every day 137 women are killed by family members.
So the study has shown that women are much more likely to die at the hands of a person they know than by a stranger.
Experts say women continue to pay the highest price as a result of gender inequality, discrimination and negative stereotypes.
Throughout the world, Asia is the region with the highest number of women killed by partners or family members, followed by Africa, America, Europe and the Ocean.
This study has called for a series of measures in order to combat this global phenomenon, including co-ordination among police, justice system, social services and health services, and also, as experts say, men should be more involved in addressing the problem.
