In theory, meditation sounds light, sitting in a place for a while, and doing nothing but think.
But meditation has more to do with how you feel.
These are some of the counsel to be followed by people who have never meditated on life:
- You do not need to meditate for hours.
For many of the first teachers, only 20 minutes is enough. At first, you may feel nothing and may feel totally strange. Try three to five minutes if you use a guided app, says Andy Puddicombe, meditation and conscience expert and co-founder of the Headspace meditation app. Better yet, if you go to solo, try only 60 seconds.
2. Practice by focusing on different areas of your body.
For those who are easily confused and who have a troubled or concerned mind, doing a body analysis, focusing on feelings different from head to foot can help convey your attention from your thoughts.
3. Find a place and stay there for a while.
You can practice meditation on the floor, on a tree, and all that matters is that you are in a comfortable position and will help you to be attentive (tratty cannot be the most productive area of meditation).
- Meditation is not mandatory. You know when you're trying hard to sleep, that's too impossible to do that? The same is true of meditation. When you try really hard to get to sleep, you just move away from sleep. So if you try to do it, say, the relaxation happens when you meditate, you're going to worry and worry, “says Puddicombe. The more you practice, the less you feel compelled to make yourself tremble will happen.
- Do not expect to fully clarify your mind. Despite popular belief, meditation has nothing to do with cleaning your mind or stopping your thoughts. Of course, your mind may be more relaxed in certain sessions than others. But let us be true, there will be times when your mind simply will not stop buzzing.
- Do not require silent space. Yes, being in a quieter space is usually easier for beginners, but some people actually prefer to meditate in more noisy places (like maybe waiting on the line at Starbux) - but don't be afraid to try different things to see who works for you.
