Millions of people in the world who have a very high blood - sugar level are more predisposed to be affected by tuberculosis warned experts today after presenting some new studies during a congress of pneumonia in The Hague.
In 2017, some 10 million people have been affected by tuberculosis, an infectious disease derived from tuberculosis bacillus, according to the World Health Organization (OBSH), and experts worry that increased diabetes cases expose millions of patients to the risks of tuberculosis infection.
Within a study presented this week at a congress of pneumology in The Hague, researchers from “London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine” have examined the blood of people suffering from tuberculosis and diabetes in four countries, South Africa, Romania, Indonesia and Peru.
“This study reveals that before a person develops a diabetes, the risk of being affected by tuberculosis is the highest”, said Ayay Kumar, director of research at the International Union Against Tuberculosis and Pulmonary Diseases.
