The Mitrovici of the Serbian Orthodox Church in Montenegro, Amfilohije Radovovic, has said that the Serbian Orthodox Church (SPC) opposes the idea of redressing the border with Kosovo, “because it meant giving up our history, and that attitude supports the majority of the Serbian people, political and intellectual activists”.
“We still do not know what this demarcation will mean”, Amfilohije said in an interview for the Russian agency TASS, broadcast Serbian media.
He noted that it is certain that the Serbian Church cannot give up its country in Kosovo, its historic existence, but also the historical existence of the Serb people there, Telegrafi notes.
Mitrovici Amfilohije stressed that “2-thirds of the world's population have not recognised Kosovo's independence”.
“Hopefully all of them will help us, and that we will be with those European countries, which have not supported Kosovo's independence, despite pressure from the United States. We hope the Kosovo issue will be brought back under international law, UN Security Council Resolution and all international regulations on border issues”, he said.
According to him, Serbia's “people, the most political and intellectuals supported the Serbian Orthodox Church's stance on Kosovo and opposed the border correction idea with Albanians”
