At least 22 people have died and more than 22 have been injured in an explosion that occurred outside a chemical factory in northern China. It is reported that a truck loaded with chemicals exploded while waiting for it to enter the factory.
In some published images, there are several cars and trucks completely burned by the explosion. The city where the explosion occurred, Zhang, is expected to be where events at the 2022 Winter Olympics will be held. The explosion occurred 41 minutes after midnight, 200 kilometers northwest of Beijing. City officials said 38 trucks and 12 cars were involved in the flames.
The factory officials said they have interrupted the production process. Despite major economic growth, China faces problems in industrial security, and such explosions are quite frequent. By July of this year, at least 19 people had died in a similar explosion in the city of Sichuan. Meanwhile, 173 people had died in 2015 from a chemical explosion, writes “BBC
