Maya Angelou stopped talking for five years. Maya's parents divorced when she was three. For the next four years, children lived with their grandmother, where their parents never visited them. And one day they were forced back into the city to live with their mother. A few months after the movement, seven-year-old Maya was abused and raped by her new mother's boyfriend.

After the terrible incident, Maya was entrusted to her brother, who told the entire family. Though his boyfriend was found guilty, he was sentenced only to one day in prison. Four days after his release, he was found murdered.

Many doubt that Maya's uncle had killed him. Shocked by what happened, Maya was silent for the next five years and returned to live with her grandmother. I thought my voice killed him: I killed that man, because I said his name... I would never speak again, because my voice would kill someone”, Maya said.

During this period of silence, Maya discovered the marvelous world of literature.

For years she escaped into Shakespeare and Dickens' world. But with the support of her teachers and her brother, she eventually lifted the silence and found her voice again... and found her voice once again... through dancing.

Later, she danced and sang Callipso music in the hottest nightclubs.

In the coming years, she traveled to Europe and launched her first music album, Miss Callippso.

When he heard Martin Luther King speaking, Maya was inspired to become an activist.

She raised funds for civil rights and travelled the world as a writer. She organized marches and protested freedom fighters all over the world. But after Dr. King's murder, Maya was destroyed and she fell into a deep depression.

So, as in her taste, she turned into books to save her.

Besides that time, instead of reading, she started writing... about her pain and taste. Its first autobiography “I know why the Cage Birds sing” became a bestseller and began its career. Maya continued to produce, write songs and write television and film scenarios, thus becoming the first colored woman to write a script.

Although she has never attended college, Maya received over 30 degrees of honour, she also won “3 Grammy Awards” for her speech albums. As a talented writer, Maya's words continue to inspire millions worldwide, including Bill Clinton, Oprah Winfrey, J.K. Rowling and Canye West. Maya died on May 28, 2014. At her funeral, she was honoured as the last “teacher”. /OxygenPress.info

One of her best-known poems:

You may rejoice to leave me.
That by pain I'm all numbing
You think you're stepping on me,
But like dust, I will rise again.

Does my pride bother you?
What caused you, suddenly, frustration?
That I stand as if I have an oil well,
That they come down there in the kitchen?

Like the sun, like the moon
On the Waves in Harmony
Like hope raised up,
I'll get up again.

You wanted to see me broken.
with their heads lowered and their eyes full of tears,
Hanging on their shoulders as if they were (but) a garden (of) dry (dwelling).
Poor woman who says a word?

Don't let my pride hurt you.
Do you think I'm losing my mind?
I don't laugh like I have gold mines,
Back in the backyard?

You can shoot me in your own words,
You can hurt my eyes.
You can kill me with your hatred.
But like the wind I'll rise again.

You're worried I'm pretty, sexy,
Why did surprise surprise you?
That I walk like I have diamonds
Where my thighs meet?

From the huts of shame in history
I get up
From the bitter past, amid beauty
I rise;
I'm a high, dark, refreshing waterfall,
I'm breathing and pouring just as terrifying.

Leaving the Fear of the Long Night
I get up
In a Marvelous Dawn
I get up
Carrying My Money's Gifts
I am a dream and a slave's hope for freedom
I rise again,
Again I rise
I'm up again!
