Serbia has not allowed the Kosovo delegation's participation in the “Economic Independence of Roma women -- early challenges and causes” -- which was originally held from October 31st to November 1st in Belgrade.
The Kosovo Foreign Ministry has expressed regret, even calling it unacceptable.
“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs expresses deep regret, considers the recent act of the official authorities of the neighbouring state Serbia, an intentional violation of Kosovo's Convention on Regional Initiatives and Freedom Organisations of Free Movement as a European fundamental principle, the recent act of official authorities, for obstacles and the failure to participate the Kosovo Republic of Kosovo delegation to the Conference: “The economic independence of Roma women: early challenges and causes”, which was prior to being held from October 31st to November 1st in the neighbouring capital of Belgrade. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kosovo had long taken all steps and actions and had informed the responsible authorities of the neighbouring state about the visit and composition of the Kosovo Republic delegation to this event, but only hours before the event was held has been announced by the government of Serbia that “delegation from Kosovo in no way can take part in the”<5> conference, the MPJ statement goes to Kosova Preas.
MPJ estimates that these actions by the northern neighbour have, among other things, made Kosovo unable to convey regional trends and access to the position of the Roma community in the region and are strongly opposed to the declarative commitment to regional co-operation, European spirit and values, and the pledge of full normalisation of relations between the two countries.
This conference is organised by the Regional Co-operation Council - The RCC, Serbia's Deputy Prime Minister Zorana Mihajlovic, the Co-ordination Body for Monitoring the Strategy for Social Inclusion of Roma in the Republic of Serbia and CARA International.
