Japan's princess, 28-year-old Ayako, has married her 32-year-old boyfriend, Kay Moriya, a ship company official.
Marriage to a simple person forces the princess to eventually give up her position and luxury.
The ceremony took place at the holy complex “Meiju Jingu” in central Tokyo and included the exchange of Japanese rings and drinks.
On Friday the princess, the third child of Prince Takamado and his wife Hisako attended a farewell ceremony organised by Emperor Akiho and Empress Michigan.
On Tuesday the couple will participate in a banquet that will most likely be held at the Tokyo New Otan Hotel in the presence of prince heir Naruhito and his wife, Masako Owada.
