The party does not set my stances, I continue to be against the “Parade of Pride”

Vetevendosje Movement member Donika Gashi, in a brief interview for Periscope, has clarified her highly commented stance against the “Crenaria Parade” of the LGBTI Community, which was held day in Pristina. In the same interview, Gashi has said it continues to be a rejection of the Parade that was held with the motto “in the name of Freedom”, as she considers this to be one of her civic rights.

She says publishing it on the social network “Facebook”, which prompted numerous reactions due to the sick “ <x2x3> and “shije”, expressed its individual stances, not as a member of a political party, in this case the Vetevendosje Movement.

In the same message, she says she had called on members of the other community to display the virtue of civic patientness even to minority groups representing ideas different from those in which most believe.

According to her, Kosovo continues to remain a model in the world, for smaller resistance against LGBTINCEs, rejecting the Parade only to Facebook's level of view. In fact, it says Kosovo is more tolerant than many Western countries, where there are anti movements - LGBTI.

She has also talked about the reaction of the Vetevendosje Movement, which distanced itself from its stance.

The party does not maintain my personal attitudes towards the world, society, life and origin. Besides, I didn't write from the official LVV Facebook page, either from her website, nor was I promoted on behalf of LVV in my account. On my Facebook page, I am author, publisher, owner, editor, editor-in-chief, responsible for my words and my position. And, if political party membership were to desifiate man, then hardly anyone would ever become part of any grouping either political, social, cultural, sports,”, she has said among other things.

Periscopi brings you the full interview with Donika Gashi:

  1. You voiced yourselves against the Crenaria Parade, which was recently held in Pristina. Do you divide your belief again, and do you think that some of the liberal values have been imposed on the ground?

Donika Gashi: The motto of the Parade was “in the name of Liberty”, and in the name of Liberty as a concept and as a common democratic value, I used the same way to not support the event, to turn around the phenomenon. Why? I believe that in the Republic that we are trying to build as a democratic and equal state for all, expressing against the Parada, (or phenomenon) is also a democratic right, as this right applies equally to those who support it.

As soon as you have the courage to be uncorruptly and maintain a personal rejection of a certain phenomenon, that's where media flow begins. Especially if you're a woman, especially if you're a member of LVV.

On the other hand, I was and I'm still refusing the Parade and I consider this to be one of my civic rights. For those who have read me correctly, this rejection was well and beautifully combined with human understanding and tolerance towards the organisational community, with the conviction that, as I have clearly written on the social Facebook network “they have the right to live the way they want to be”.

So my message, in short was called on to another community where I feel I belong, (with faith in different values from LGBTI), to display the virtue of civic patience even to minority groups that represent ideas different from those in which most believe. And believing in different ideas or values is completely democratic.

The organisation of the Parade and public defiling in Pristina, along with the tendency of organisers to all share their beliefs, I see as the idea that a minority group is trying to impose on the majority. (And this conflicts with liberal principles that they supposedly defend. In fact, such an attitude is just a violation of the rights of most people to believe and feel differently. )

However, on the occasion of holding the Parade, we showed that we are tolerant and that Kosovo has consistently been a model in the world, with the slightest resistance against LGBTI, rejecting the Parade only at Facebook level. We reported that we are perhaps even more tolerant (even compared to Western countries and the European Union, where the most anti - positive movements - LGBTI will find you from the U.S. to Italy, Poland and so on, and that's one of our values that deserves respect.

  1. Do you think that earlier civic culture or conservative spirit is being suppressed by such values?

Donika Gashi: In democratic states and societies that we take as examples of good civic living co-exist different systems of values and beliefs being part of the whole. In fact, this is also the beauty of social freedom and diversity. With tolerance as an autochthon virtue, I consider that most are compatible that society can never be homogenous in a sense of thinking. But what matters is that we respect each one's right to express himself freely even when it represents a different, opposite opinion and attitude. So let's realize it's paradoxical to suppress freedom on behalf of freedom as did one of the Watch Tower organizers, to others, in this case, to me.

To be clear that the West and the European Union condemn and prohibit violence but do not try to eliminate conservative views. Our traditional values, such as tolerance, solidarity, generosity, hospitality, respect for family, are the national wealth that we owe to the future generations. Because this is the foundation of our beautiful and unique home. But we also need to avoid double standards and not allow that to become the norm in our culture. Let each man live as he will. Everyone has the right to think differently. If we did according to the logic of a minority in Pristina, then according to them, the EU would have to jail and lynch the right extreme in Europe because of the disfellowshipped language against immigrants, Africans, Islam, Arabs and so on. There, however, the opposite even occurs. They gain considerable percentages of the vote and are part of parliaments and governments. Because the democratic world has room for the coexistence of all ideas.

  1. How do you view the stance of the Vetevendosje Movement, which distanced itself from your positions and defended the parade?

Donika Gashi: I'm really sorry that a journalist at a certain portal hyperbolised my personal, written position on the social Facebook network and biasedly tried to present the same as Vetevendosje's attitude! I understand that all that intense assault on me by that portal reporter was done with the most evil intention. (In context, they did not read metaphors or punctuation signs.) On one side they used my name to attack LVV and on the other, they tried to attack LVV because of my personal stand. And that was completely hypocritical and biased.

In my response to the attacks of that portal and the reporter, I clarified my position in the middle. The party does not maintain my personal attitudes toward the world, society, life and origin. Besides, I didn't write from the official LVV Facebook page, either from her website, nor was I promoted on behalf of LVV in my account. On my Facebook page, I am author, publisher, owner, editor, editor-in-chief, responsible for my words and my position. And, if political party membership were to desidulate man, then hardly anyone would ever become part of any political, social, cultural, sports grouping. But, the case with me, it was more the tendency of those who thus criticize LVV without giving it away.

  1. You believe that homosexuality is disease. What is the cure for it?

Donika Gashi: I believe that homosexuality is a condition in which the individual shows difficulty in being in harmony with his naturality, or manifests the tendency to go into disagreement with the nature in which he is created. And that's the idea that monotheistic beliefs give us. Science can currently have a different attitude and can continue systematically to change its findings, as it constantly does.

Until recently, homosexuality has also been taught in the chapter about sexual perverts, along with pedophilia, Vujarism, necrophilia. However, a believer takes the religious text, the Sacred Book, which we have created in pairs so that you may be reminded. (Designs: 49), just as another takes on the latest scientific, human theory, with great probability of future changes. Of course, I still believe in the first for many values and see it as the most stable basis, until others in the second, and it's perfectly normal for people to have different authorities where they support their beliefs, values and attitudes. (I trust in God and I see him as the owner of every kind of spiritual illness.) If I'm judged for what I say, then what about the pillars on which mankind supports the idea of life, creation, existence? But if billions of believers in the world are based on the Holy Books, does it mean to eliminate them only because they have certain views on something? Of course not. For the believer, behavior that prohibits human reproduction is destructive behavior. But the believer does not take on the judgment of the creature on the basis of his beliefs. The believer judges behavior, phenomenon, but not creation. For the thought of the Lord, hope in the mercy of God, and faith in the righteousness of the Lord, is greater to the believer than the whole world.
