NATO is preparing the largest simulation of its troops in more than a decade to be “available” following the recent appearance of the Russian and Chinese military force.
The exercises in Norway are expected to begin in October and will include 45 thousand troops, 150 military planes, 60 ships and 10,000 cars from 29 NATO states, broadcast Koha.net.
This war simulation, which has been the largest since 2002, comes after joint exercises by the Russian Army and China last month. These exercises were held in Siberia, and some 300 thousand Russian troops were involved.
Sweden and Finland, which co-operate with NATO but who are non-members, will participate in simulations.
The simulation is intended to ensure that NATO forces are trained, available to operate jointly, and ready to respond to any threat from any direction”, says a recent NATO report.
Last week, an American official warned Russia to ban the secret development of a banned missile system.
Russia has declined an invitation to send its supervisors to watch NATO military exercises, but Admiral James Foggo says “is in their interest to see what we do, and to learn”.
Secretary - General NATO, Jens Stoltenberg, has said there are concerns about Russia's military interventions in Ukraine and Georgia, of supporting Bashar Assad in Syria and strengthening Russian naval forces in the Mediterranean.
