Today the European Parliament's Foreign Affairs Committee (AFET) has voted for the Progress Report on Kosovo. This report was approved by 42 votes per, 10 against and 6 abstentions.
After that vote, European Parliament rapporteur for Kosovo Igor Sholtes, who had expressed satisfaction with the outcome of the vote, has spoken.
He has said Kosovo already has the big chance to get visa liberalisation.
Kosovo is currently at a crucial point to obtain visa liberalisation, which would give Kosovo the opportunity to move towards a modern society. To achieve this, continued fight against corruption and organised crime is needed. Efforts should also be made in creating an adequate business environment and strengthening a judiciary and law enforcement”, Sholtes has said.
Sholtes has said that estimates for the report are positive, however, with some remarks on the environment, education, minorities, unemployment, as well as improved freedom of journalists and media in Kosovo.
He has said the European Parliament is and will continue to be a supporter and ally of the Republic of Kosovo.
According to him, stability and development of the Balkans and the region is of extraordinary importance.
Any progress made in this direction will always be backed by us”, Sholtes said.
