European governments cannot treat the EU parliamentary elections as an ordinary “official” taking into consideration the increased risk of external and corporate manipulation, the European Commission says, Periscope follows.
The scandal on misuse of Facebook data from Cambridge Analytica and added evidence of illegal intervention in the elections are described by the commission as “calling to wake up from sleep” for which the national EU governments should have answers.
Vera Jourova, the justice commissioner, told the European Parliament that <x0-magnetic cigarettes” was being played and this could pose a serious threat to free and democratic elections.
