Kosovo so far has 45 per cent of its forested surface, and within 10 to 15 years this area can be reached at 50 per cent.

So said by Kosovo Foresting Agency officials during the foresting action of bare surfaces in the village of Lashtica of Gjilan municipality.

Kosovo Assembly Speaker Kadri Veselini, who has said that Kosovo needs foresting and a better environment.

It's very encouraging to plant these pine seedlings for their own influence on our environment, our daily life. Kosovo, in relation to the European Union countries, has a good situation in forests, but what concerns us all is see the environmental part, is something which is unacceptable to our very identity to the throwing of inert and organic waste instead. One appeal, at least, I'm trying to say if the inert waste is not made in a hectare every 100 meters. At least they try to throw it away, even though it is unacceptable, but not destroy the entire environment. We have to do even more, but the institutions and citizens have to do both to preserve our lives”, said Wessel

Kosovo Forest Agency chief executive head Ahmet Zejnullahu has said that this year they have planned to forest over 300 hectares of new land.

Kosovo Forest Agency this year has planned over 300 hectares of new areas to foreste. And where we are in an area that has been forested in previous years, it means three years in a row. There are 20 acres [20 ha] forested in 2012, and last year there are another 20 acres [20 ha]. Now we've got two acres ahead of us to complete this area with new seedlings. Otherwise, the Kosovo Forests Agency each year has an annual plan to foreste between 400 and 500 hectares within the year and certainly that in the coming years these surfaces will be added even more... At present we are 45 per cent of the overall surfaces in Kosovo are covered in forests, while very close we are to achieve the 50 per cent goal of Kosovo having forest coverage. This can certainly be achieved within 10 to 15 years”, he said.

Parliament Speaker Kadri Veselini, along with officials of the Kosovo Forest Agency, have planted pine seedlings in Lishica in Gjilani.
