Toothbrush, needles, matches, metal coins, are just a few objects known in medicine as foreign bodies when patients accidentally or deliberately swallow them. The Abdominal Surgery Clinic at QKUK has an archive of these bodies removed from the patient organism

Imagine you're sewing your clothes. At one point stop and not lose your needles, put that in your mouth. Someone asks you something and in an effort to answer, you instinctively swallow the needle.

The Besnik Bicay surgeon of the Abdominal Surgery Clinic at QKUK has confessed to Schneta Journal this and many other cases when patients swallow various objects known in medicine as foreign bodies within the human body.

Teeth Bruce is one of the biggest objects that has been swallowed up, while others are like needles, matches, metal coins, hair pickers, springs, nails, keys, etc.

The Bicaj surgeon shows that in Kosovo the endoscope service at the Abdominal Clinic has been functional 30 years ago by Prof. Dr. Samedin Hadzijaha. This service, he explains, is handled by the upper and lower gastroinsteinal leaflet. Among other things, cases of removing foreign troops are carried out in the upper leaflet.

Although the clinic is operated without adequate equipment, after gastroscope has been broken for more than a year, doctors manage to remove these foreign bodies from the patient's glucose.

However, he says that there are even occasions when swallowing is deliberate, as in prisoners.

He says there have been cases when a prisoner twice swallowed matches within two weeks. Purposeful cases refer to psychiatrist after the removal of troops.

Toothbrush and the Wonder of the Pill

The Bicaj surgeon says that the rarest instance of swallowing is the toothbrush. That's because it's one of the biggest foreign bodies ever swallowed by a 14-year-old patient.

The boy said that the swallowing happened by accident while he was cleaning his teeth.

Bruceha, which you can see in pictures from the clinic archive, is about 20cm long. Although it has been one of the most difficult cases, Bicaj says the brush has been released without a problem by the 14-year-old trick.

The doctor also explains the strange movement that often pins into the human organism after being swallowed.

With needles, it's interesting because in many cases they pass the trick and it happens very rarely because of a needle, a patient with surgery. If the needle moves forward, they come out with shit. But it has happened that the needle stops a little bit before the anus exit because there's a muscle that keeps the needs and needles fixed. But it is strange how needles pass all those curves through the tiny, 4m intestines and over six feet [1 and a half m] of colon”, says Dr. Bees.

Other bodies that are swallowed by patients are batteries, rings, gum prosthetics during chewing, etc.

All these bodies recovered after the war at the Abdominal Clinic are stored in an archive. Over a year there are an average of 8-10 cases of swallowing objects by Kosovars. /Gazzeta Shneta/
