On December 30th, 11 years are up to the day Iraqi President Saddam Hussein was executed on the stake, three years after his arrest, when he was convicted by an Iraqi court of crimes against humanity.

After the Allied forces led by the US Army launched the invasion of Iraq in 2003, in the operation called “Iraqi Freedom”, under the pretext that Saddam Hussein had collected weapons for mass destruction, Saddam did not find.

Washington offered $25m for his head, while about 600 soldiers were involved in the research operation called “The black commitment”, according to the anti-communist American film shot in 1984. Could have been the “The greatest” for a man in history.

They found it on December 13, 2003, after eight months of research, in a ditch near his native Tikrit... He calmly said: “I am Saddam Hussein, president of Iraq and I want to negotiate”.

A year later, the Americans handed him over to Iraqi authorities, who on charges of committing crimes against humanity by killing 148 Shiite villagers in Dujail in 1982, sentenced him to death, and the execution was suspended on November 5, 2006.

When the judge read the verdict, Saddam cheered: “Allah is the greatest! ” and “Ruft Iraq. Long live the Iraqi people! The court said that the execution should be carried out within 30 days, while the Iraqis demanded Saddam's transfer from the US Army's jurisdiction to execute within 48 hours.

Saddam Huseyn's execution was carried out on December 30, at 6:05 local time, while the entire process was filmed with camera, while in the media it was debated and widely disputed that the sentence was not necessarily hanging and that it was all mounted and filmed to intimidate the opinion.

As seen from the scene, Saddam was completely calm during his execution. Eyewitnesses say that he displayed no sign of fear. The last moments of his life were described by his former adviser for national security, Muvafak el Rubai, who supervised the execution.

Saddam came to me in the prison space where he was executed, wore a jacket and a white shirt, had normal behavior, and was relaxed, unable to look into it. Of course, some people have asked me to tell you how he fell unconscious and that he was drugged, but that's not true, I haven't heard a word of regret, he didn't beg God for mercy, nor did he apologize, how would someone who knows he'd die in a few minutes he declared.

Rubai took Saddam, who had handcuffs in his hands with a Koran and brought him to the judge who read the charge, while Saddam repeated: “Death to America! Death to Israel! Hail Palestine! Persian mulahs death!”

After that, Rubai took Saddam to the hanging environment. He stopped, looked at the rope, then to Rubai, then he looked down and he said, “Doctor, this is for men”

When the time came for him to climb, his feet were still bound, so Rubai and others had to help him up the stairs. Just before the hanging, witnesses provoked him: “Ruth Muhamed Bakr al-Sadr! ” and “Moktada, Moktada!”, referring to Saddam's opponent, who was killed during the time of his regime and his cousin, who came to the head of a strong militia after 2003.

Saddam replied: "Are they men? And before the leva was withdrawn, he began to recite verses from the Koran, which he could not say to the end: “I confirm that there is no god but Allah, and Muhammad...”, and these were his last words.

The film footage that was posted that day online shows Saddam Hussein's last moments in a Baghdad barracks.

Saddam Hussein, who ruled Iraq over the two decades marked by depression, destructive wars and fierce international sanctions, was president from July 1979 to March 2003, when the attack against Iraq was carried out by the US.
Some Iraqis, especially Sunni Arabs, look back on the time of Saddam's regime, especially the period of internal stability that is incomparable to the brutal violence that plunged the country after its fall.

Saddam is remembered with the greatest respect even some Arabs, who remember the war he led against Iran from 1980 to 1988, the U.S. conflict, the Israeli attacks, and the tranquillity with which he went to his death.
Five years after Saddam, another world leader was publicly and cruelly executed, while the word is for Libyan leader Moammer el Gaddafi. His last moments were bloody and humiliating.
