Russian diplomats continue to die unexpectedly, what's going on?

Here's what you need to know:

You probably remember Russia's ambassador to Turkey, Andrei Karlov, he was killed by a police officer at a photo exhibition in Ankara on December 19th.

The same day, another diplomat, Peter Polshikov, was shot dead in his apartment in Moscow. The weapon was found under the toilet sink, but the circumstances of death are under investigation.

Russia's ambassador to the United Nations, Vitaly Churkin, died in New York this week. Churkin was taken to hospital by his office on the UN mission.

Russia's ambassador to India, Alexander Kadak, died after a short-speed “” on January 27, 2017, which The Hindu said had suffered for several weeks.

The Russian consul in Athens, Greece, Andrei Malen, was found dead in his apartment on January 9th. A Greek police official said there was no “evidence of an intervention for theft”.

On the morning of US Election Day, Russian diplomat Sergei Krivov was found unconscious at the Russian Consulate in New York and died.

Former KGB Oleg Erovinkin, suspected of helping draft Trump's file, was found dead in the back of his car on December 26th, according to The Telegraph.

A lawyer for near Putin, Nikolai Gorokhov, was reportedly thrown out of a window on March 21st in Moscow.

A former Russian delegation, Denis Voroninkov, was shot dead in Kiev on March 23rd, according to the BBC.

Russia's ambassador to Sudan, Mirgayas Shirinsky, was found dead at his home in Khartum on August 23rd.

A few stories: In November 2015, a senior adviser to Putin, Mikhail Lesin, who was also founder of the media company RT, was found dead in a hotel room in Washington, according to NYT. Russian media said it was a “heart attack”, but the medical examiner said it was “maybe strong violence”.

Two cases that are slightly clearer: In 2006, former KGB officer Alexander Litvinenko and informant Alexander Perepilichny were poisoned with radioactive polonium.
