Erdogan and Rouhan have discussed demonstrations in Iran through a telephone conversation on 3 January, sources from the Turkish presidency report, reports “Hurriyet Daily News”, Periscopi broadcast.
Erdogan said Rouhan had taken an appropriate <x0 focus”, saying demonstrators should not violate the law until they exercise their right to peaceful protests, sources said, adding that the Turkish president stressed the importance of “preserving peace and stability in Iran. ”
The demonstrations were prompted after thousands of people took to the streets on December 28th in the northeastern cities of Mashhad and Kaschmari to protest rising goods prices and mismanagement by the government, local media reports say.
At least 23 people, including a police officer, have reportedly been killed and more than 1,000 have been arrested since the start of demonstrations.. /Periscopi/
