Officials in the U.S. state, Hawaii, have said that a human error has been responsible for a false alarm, which has announced that a missile is headed for a tourist zone that has caused panic and confusion in the chain of the Pacific island.
Governor David Ige has told reporters that the error was caused by a staff member who has “invited the wrong button”.
It wasn't supposed to happen. We're investigating the causes that have been sent to this incident”, Ige said.
Emergency Management Agency manager (EMA), Vern Miyagi, has claimed responsibility for the error and added that he “will make sure this never happens again”.
Officials have said they still cannot explain why 38 minutes have taken authorities to declare the alarm was false.
This alert comes at a time of mounting tensions, as North Korea constantly tests intercccsed ballistic missiles and nuclear weapons.
Hawaii has recently begun to test the alarm for nuclear attack, for the first time since the Cold War.
