An ancient copy of the Koran discovered by the University of Birmingham may have belonged to Abu Bakr, one of the first Muslims.
Dates of radiocarbonic tests conducted in July were found several fragments of at least 1,370 years old, raising doubts that this would be the oldest copy of the Islamic holy book, reports the “The Independent”, Periscopi.
Director of Foundations for Islamic Studies “Jamal bin Huwareib has suggested that such a document may be commissioned by a small number of the most likely is brought by Abu Bakr.
Abu Bekri is widely regarded as the first person to embrace Islam without direct the prophet Muhammad. He served as the prophet's trusted friend and adviser and became the first Muslim Caliphus in 632, ruling 27 months to his death in 634.
