Four days later, when Giddlings was reported missing, McDaniel was interviewed by a team of journalists about this event. In the interview, he appeared as one concerned with the murder of a friend living near him.
Later, police searched his apartment and immediately suspected that he might be the killer, as during the search at the residence, McDaniel was disturbed and drank up to 10 bottles of water.
After a pair of her clothes were found in his apartment, McDaniel was arrested and sentenced to life after trial. He pleaded guilty to murder during the process, even following the victim before the murder.
