The denied visas for MPs. Speaking of Periscope American Embassy and EU Office

For several days in the media, news has circulated that Kosovo Assembly deputies, who have signed the initiative to abolish the Special Court Law, have been introduced by non-visa embassies. Regarding such a case, Periscopi has contacted the U.S. Embassy Office in Pristina and the Union Office [...]

Regarding such an issue, Periscopi has contacted the U.S. Embassy Office in Pristina and the European Union Office.

Both of these diplomatic missions have not determined this, with the reasoning that they are not dealing with individual cases. Yet, they once again make it clear that the tendency to abolish the Special would have serious consequences for the country.

The American “Embassy does not comment on individual visa-related cases, due to the privacy law. Improved rule of law, is the number one priority for the American Embassy in Kosovo”, Periscopi says in response.

The U.S. Embassy once again expresses its request not to attempt the abolition of the Special.

The Special Court will assist in bringing justice to many Kosovo citizens of great interest and is the vital step for Kosovo's European future. We oppose the bill, which is currently under discussion and repeat our calls to institutional leaders, party leaders and members of the Parliament to give up the abolition or amendment of any part of the Special Court law”, the American Embassy's response is said.

Meanwhile, the EU Office in Kosovo is in the same line as it does. Refusing to comment on the issue of the MPs' visa issues, they say the only message from them is that the reason to abolish the Special would harm Kosovo's reports with the EU”.

“The message of the EU and the international community about the initiative to abolish the Law for Specialised Chambers is clear. Any attempt to abolish or change the Law for Specialised Chambers would undermine Kosovo's pledge with the EU to implement the rule of law, unleash the obligations Kosovo has taken over, and that would have a negative impact on Kosovo relations, the EU. Now it is up to all of Kosovo's political and institutional representatives to overcome and correct this initiative, which is harmful to Kosovo's international position and to its EU integration path”, the EU Office's response granted to Periscope.

As for the difficulties in the visa, it was LDK deputy Naser Rugova, who at yesterday's Assembly session, has raised the problem of obtaining visas for official travel.

Rugova has even talked about the terror taking place at the embassy.

“From the visits we are having and the invitations we are having from mechanisms, certain international institutions, associations, or even our participation in certain gatherings, is a real terror of visa proceeding, imagine when such treatment is done for us as people's elected to what Kosovo citizen is facing. So, sir, I ask you and the head of the Republic of Kosovo Assembly to reach an agreement with the relevant embassies here, who has problems with law and other problems is a different issue, but the mere image, profile, identity of our state, but also of the highest institution that is the Parliament of the Republic of Kosovo is going through, and we as elected of the people and as institutions without taking the position, the opposition should raise this issue as the elected”, Rugova said, Perisko writes.

The LDK MP has asked Prime Minister Haradinaj to deal seriously with the problem.

“Seeks from Kosovo's prime minister to talk with those ambassador and diplomatic representatives who leave no stones without throwing stones at the state of Kosovo, to Kosovo institutions no matter who government with Kosovo. They represent all of us and represent the profile, identity and image of this state, and we are witnessing such paradoxes and diplomatic scandals”, Rugova stressed.

But we remember that only last week, the prime minister's vocabulary of foreign embassies, has been very severe.

He has even said that we are not accountable to ambassadors for the decisions that Parliament makes.

“Special Chambers, the initiative is for parliament we respect Parliament. We are elected by parliament, only parliament is accountable to the ambassadors. Remember this, the government of the country gives the account to parliament, parliament has chosen us, ambassadors are accountable to diplomatic relations with the state, but we have no employer, we have employers to MPs and we conduct them with respect. Now the subject is in Government, there are procedures that need to be passed, we have 30 days, we will pass procedures in the set term“, Haradinaj said.

This prime minister's statement comes after US Ambassador to Kosovo Greg Delawi's preliminary statement, which has said that those who support Special Resolution will face serious consequences.

US Ambassador to Kosovo Greg Delaway, in an address to the media, has spoken to the Special Court, where he has warned the Parliament's deputies as well as politicians who support its abolition will face serious consequences.

This dedication is under serious threat from an initiative to undo or amend the law authorising the Special Court. This effort presents a terrible example of the case when self-interest prevails over general good and over Kosovo's interests as a state. MPs who support this initiative and politicians who press it despite their denial will undergo specific and severe consequences. They know this because we told them”, Ambassador Delawi said. /Periscopi/
