Various economic programmes are allowing foreigners to legally buy a citizenship or a residence permit in exchange for considerable investments.
The International Monetary Fund has highlighted the rapid growth of this phenomenon, suggesting that the current geopolitical climate has led people to search for “policy and economic security parameters”. But there are many cases that buying citizenship or residence is also done to reduce fiscal obligations.
Despite such offers recently increased, similar programmes have been operational in many countries for decades. The two - island nation of St Kitts and Nevis, for example, has offered citizenship against investments since 1984.
