The only problem for scientists was how to place viruses in the tumor, but they succeeded.
There were nine of them, all in one row for the operation of gliomas and such brain tumors in which prognosis was very bad. There was nothing to lose, and so, a few days before the operation, they injected into blood veins through doses of revolution.
When they removed the tumor after surgery and analyzed it, they found that in just a few days the tumors had apparently suffered a cell - level injury because of “a reason”, of course.
Scientists from the University of Leeds and London's Institute for Cancer Research proved that common viruses, such as those in nature and not attacking animals or plants, can act as immune therapy in dealing with brain tumors, the Kosovas transmits.
The scientific article on the details of this fantastic discovery was published by Science Translational Medicine.
Scientists are convinced that they can thus treat tumors, since viruses have shown themselves to infect only tumor cells and not touch normal cells.
The problem with brain tumors so far has been believed to be that viruses cannot be able to penetrate from blood veins into the brain because of the barrier that protects the brain. The only way remained the direct location of the virus in the brain, but it was dangerous and should not be taken into account.
Now scientists have managed to send the virus through blood veins into the brain. After drawing tumors and placing them under a microscope, they realized that revolutions, when tumor cells had reached, had provoked the immune system of the organism.
As long as viruses were not in tumoral cells, the cell body did not experience it as something that slowly kills the human body.
Our immune system is not particularly good at coping with cancer, in part because cancer cells look like healthy cells and partly because cancer cells are very good at how to deal with” immune cells to return to the other (4)x2>, explains Alan Mercher, one of the scientists involved in the study.
But in this case, with the use of revirus in brain cancer, when the virus was found in a cell, the organism was suddenly trapped in the bombing of infected lymphocytes and their murder.
Each such cell without error detected it as dangerous. Scientists have found in the tissue affected by revolutions high levels of interferone, a protein that activates our troop defence system, one of the wonders that Gregory House occasionally mentions in the popular series.
This success by placing revirus in brain tumors opens up all kinds of solutions and as an autonomous cancer immun therapy, not only of the brain but also as additional therapy after surgery and chemotherapy.
Side effects? Patients reported that they had symptoms similar to that of the nearly medium - intensity flu that passed within days.
