Arthur Wagner, a politician in the eastern state of Brandenberg, has become a Muslim. His alternative to Germany ( AfD) entered Bundestag last year following a populist, anti-Islamic campaign.
According to foreign media, Telegrafi watches, it was Germany's extreme rightist party, Alternative (anti-Islam) for Germany ( The AfD, which has confirmed on Tuesday reports in German media that one of its politicians, Arthur Wagner, has been converted to Islam.
Wagner, a leading AfD member in the eastern state of Brandenburg, resigned from his post at the party's National Executive Committee on January 11th for personal reasons, said AfD spokesman Daniel Friede.
The party has no problem with this”, Friese added.
He insisted that the National AfD party included groups representing Muslim interests, as well as Christians and homosexuals.
Wagner, a German of Russian origin, had been representative of the AfD since 2015. He was a member of the State Committee responsible for churches and religious communities.
Before joining the anti-Islamic, anti-imigration party, he was a member of Chancellor Angela Merkel (CDU) Christian Democrats.
Wagner refused to answer questions from the German newspaper Tagesspiegel, who first announced his conversion to Islam.
This is my private matter”, he told the newspaper. But he said there was no effort by the party to force him to resign.
AfD entered Germany's national parliament, Bundestag, for the first time after the September national elections, becoming the third largest party. /Telegraphy/
