US State Department (DASH) has warned American citizens planning to visit Kosovo to be cautious because of the danger of terrorist attacks in the Balkans, including Kosovo.
On her website, The UN stresses that terrorist groups continue to plan possible attacks on the Balkan region, including Kosovo.
According to the UN, the parts to be avoided are North Mitrovica, Leposaviqi, Zubin Potok and Zvecani.
“Terrorists can attack with little or no warning, aiming for tourist, transportation, markets / malls, local government facilities, hotels, clubs, restaurants, places of worship, parks, major sports and cultural events, educational institutions, airports, and other public areas. In addition, politically motivated violence flows throughout Kosovo”, the UN notes.
Moreover, The UN advises American citizens that before deciding to visit Kosovo to read the Security and Security Department on the country's information page, avoid demonstrations, be vigilant in Western-controlled countries, monitor local media and adapt plans based on new information.
And so, The UN advises American citizens to enroll in the Smart Traveler (STEP) programme to receive reports and make it easier to find out in case of emergency.
According to the UN, the parts to be avoided are North Mitrovica, Leposaviqi, Zubin Potoku and Zvecani, as the US government has limited capacity to provide emergency services to American workers travelling to this part of Kosovo.
“Tensions within and between communities in northern Kosovo continue to provoke violence, demonstrations and other riots in northern Mitrovica, Leposaviqi, Zubin Potok and Zvecan.
Although recent riots have been politically linked and does not include tourists or members of the international community, passersby may be affected if violent incidents” occur, the UN notes.
